In India, there are so many unfortunate and frustrated poor widows, who have experienced unprecedented struggles in different aspects. After being death of their husband they used to be neglected completely by their children and also ill treatment would meted out to them in the society.
The common tradition in India is that even their shadow will be regarded as bad luck while we are going for a good cause and the widows move towards their direction. She is shunned by her community and exiled from family and friends. She is no longer welcome in the homes of those who once loved her. Her presence at family functions is completely forbidden. The situation is even more extreme in Indian rural communities. It is much more traditionally bound in urban areas. Despite so, there are many possibilities to live a normal life. Most miserably if her husband dies at a young age and if they had children at a tender age, this is all devastating burdensome for these widows to feed them.
RFM is reaching out to some of such types of widows in our surrounding areas by providing some provisions for their survival. We also provide free sewing machines and different skills training for young widows. So that they can be able to stand on their legs to get some monthly income to lead their lives. Here in India, there are 40 million widows. This is the factual statistics. India is home to an estimated 40 million widows - approximately 10% of all women.
Poor Widow welfare is not seen as a priority in India, even though the country is home to over 55 Million widows one of the highest in the world. Aging women are more vulnerable than men. Without any financial security or welfare infrastructure, many of them are abandoned where they live off charity while they wait to die.At present, we are supporting poor widows/ elderly women under our RFM churches located in our operational area.
The most predominant need is a permanent shelter for such pathetic and less privileged widows for their sustainable survival in all aspects. This is our RFM lucid objective.
