Slum Feeding Programs

“for I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me.” - Matthew 25:35

Reaching Forward Ministries

Our RFM India address the challenge of Hunger to the less fortunate, To transform the lives of Indian slum people in poverty by feeding them physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for the glory of God.

The slum population is growing at 2% annually. India is one of the developing countries that are worst hit by malnourishment. FAO estimates in ‘The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, 2020 report show that 189.2 million people are undernourished in India. A combination of poverty, discrimination, and inadequate schools means that child labour is an entrenched problem in India – as many as 23 million children aged 5-14 are believed to work, with another 75 million out of school Many daily wage labourers struggle to provide for themselves and their families, as a result, 190 million Indians go to bed without food daily. Feeding the Poor is another way we extend our care and support to those who cannot provide for themselves.

RFM India has developed relationships with people in some of the poorest areas throughout the country and has offered free meals to thousands of needy people. Food is an essential basic need for survival. Therefore, we desire to keep food on the table for as many needy people as we can so that they don’t have to go through the nightmare of sleeping in hunger.

How Slums Arise

Urban slums form due to rural migration, unemployment, poverty, and economic stagnation. In India, slums arise from internal migration, segregation, lack of opportunities, high unemployment, and poor governance. They offer sanctuary to rural dwellers escaping harsh living conditions.

Life in Slums

Urban slum residents face challenges due to lack of amenities, poor living conditions, and increased risk of illness. The growth of slums has followed economic development, impacting young people and women in particular. Women in slums struggle with limited healthcare access and societal barriers to education and employment. Families often send children to work, leading to a lack of education and exposure to dangerous situations. Child labour persists in industries where children work long hours for low pay.

Feeding Program

Our feeding initiatives are designed to specifically target underprivileged children in slums, aiming to address the issue of malnutrition and its impact on their physical and cognitive development. It is disheartening to witness individuals struggling to meet their basic needs. Without access to essential resources, it becomes increasingly challenging for them to progress and thrive.

RFM India is dedicated to providing a feeding program for children living in the slums, ensuring they have access to education and nutritious meals. By offering two warm meals a day, we are helping these children break the cycle of poverty in their families. Our focus on hygiene guarantees that the food provided is safe and healthy for the children in our program.
