Leprosy Programs

“Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.” - Matthew 8:3

Reaching Forward Ministries

In a leprosy village, a man is shunned due to his condition, experiencing neglect and rejection. Despite this, a group of people regularly visit to provide food and treat wounds, offering tangible expressions of love. This example highlights efforts to give dignity and care to leprosy communities, showing the impact of compassion in their lives.

"Approximately five million people in India suffer from leprosy, living in around 50,000 leper colonies. Most of them survive by begging and endure terrible physical pain. They reside in isolated areas outside the cities and villages. Your donation can make a difference in the lives of those suffering from this debilitating illness. Thank you for your support."

India was declared “Leprosy Eliminated” in 2005, but the country still sees over half (52%) of the world’s new leprosy patients. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted this in the National Strategic Plan and Roadmap for Leprosy 2023-2027. Leprosy is a chronic bacterial infection affecting the skin, nerves, lungs, and eyes. The COVID-19 pandemic led to a decline in case detection numbers, reversing earlier gains made in the leprosy program. Early detection is crucial to prevent physical disability.
